Welcome to Candle Ends Festival, a fringe festival on the fringes of the fringe. A miniature festival we are now in our second year of showcasing some of the most exciting new theatre in Australia.
Our aim is to create space for artists, directors and writers to play and experiment. To take chances and make exciting, daring pieces of theatre. Performances of 10 minutes of less are performed at Brunswick Arts Space and we invite artists to try out new works-in-progress rather than finished shows; we dare them to take a chance, to come up with something totally new.
2008 saw the inaugural festival start off with a bang as performer Mousetrapreplica broke the fourth wall and conducted not only his collection of musicians but the audience in a musical and spoken word experiment. Alistair Karl and Andrew Scarborough entranced us with spoken word performances, Thinking Theatre performed School for Scandal in amongst the standing audience and Robert D Jordan’s interactive installation other more beautiful lives. Nat Grant and Witness Girl made music from bed frames and marbles while James Wray and Erin Voth covered themselves in plastic and sticky tape in Plastikos.
This year we want to take everything further; to create an exciting hive of activity at Brunswick Arts Space. We already have a number of brilliant artists interested in being a part of Candle Ends Festival and we're on the look out for more.
Thanks for your interest and support and we hope to see you at Brunswick Arts Space in June.
